Linda Purl is an American actress and singer best known for her role as Ashley Pfister on Happy Days.

Linda Purl was born on September 2, 1955, in Greenwich, Connecticut, to Raymond Charles Arthur Purl and Marshelline “Marshie” Purl. Both her parents were Jewish. Her father, Raymond was a chemical-industry executive.
She has one sister named Mara Purl. Her grandmother, Beatrice Saville, founded the Actors’ Equity Association. When she was five years old, her family to Japan, where her father worked for Nippon Unicar. During her childhood, she attended the Toho Geino Academy where she trained in acting.
During her time at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo, she performed in several plays including playing the role of Louis in The King and I. When she was 15, her family returned to the United States.
There, she attended the Wykeham Rise School and later Finch College. After she traveled to England to study under Marguerite Beale, she returned to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
